Four private economic organizations, including the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Federation of Mid-sized Businesses, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Businesses, and the Korea Fair Trade Commission annually commemorates April 1, the first enforcement date of the Fair Trade Act, as "Fair Trade Day," and the Fair Trade Commission supports these private efforts and sponsors events.

At the event, Han Ki-jung, chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, presented a government award to people of merit in fair trade and encouraged businessmen who worked to spread a fair competitive culture.

Chairman Han Ki-jung stressed in his commemorative speech, "In order for our economy to leap to a mature market economy where 'freedom of coexistence and solidarity' blooms, the establishment and spread of a fair trade culture by the private sector itself is paramount."

In addition, Chairman Han Ki-jung said that the FTC will thoroughly support entrepreneurs' efforts to produce more results, and that he will carry out various policy tasks without a hitch this year, especially with the aim of "building a fair market economy that supports people's livelihoods and innovation."

As a concrete measure, he said, "First of all, we will thoroughly monitor the abuse of control and unfair trade of platform operators, which are increasingly influential in our society, and strengthen consumer protection in the digital transaction environment," stressing that the law will be strictly enforced without discrimination between domestic and foreign companies, especially against acts that damage our market and people.

It also said it will strengthen monitoring of foul play in areas close to people's real life, such as daily necessities, finance and telecommunications, to support the people's livelihood, while also focusing on ensuring the fair share of small and medium-sized venture companies and improving business conditions for small business owners such as franchisees.

Baek Hye-ryeon, chairman of the National Assembly's political affairs committee, stressed in a video congratulatory speech that "a fair and free competitive environment is paramount to promote creative business activities and boost market vitality."

In addition, he praised the efforts of the meritorious people to spread the fair trade culture at the forefront of the market and urged the private sector and the government to continue to cooperate to ensure that these private efforts shine.

Meanwhile, 30 fair trade meritorious people were awarded government awards such as discipline and packaging for their contributions to the development of the fair trade system, win-win cooperation, and the spread of a culture of self-compliance.
