- Korea Consumer Agency & Fair Trade Commission Issue Consumer Damage Warning for Lunar New Year -
The Korea Consumer Agency (President Yoon Soo-hyun, hereinafter referred to as the "Consumer Agency") and the Korea Fair Trade Commission (Chairman Han Ki-jeong, hereinafter referred to as the "Fair Trade Commission") have issued a consumer damage warning regarding airline tickets, parcel delivery, and health foods, as damages are expected to increase during the Lunar New Year holiday.
- Airline tickets, parcel delivery, and health food products see a rise in consumer purchases and usage around the holiday period, leading to continuous reports of consumer damages. Therefore, consumers need to exercise special caution.
- (Airline Tickets) Check for any natural disasters at your travel destination, as well as the country's entry and exit policies in advance. Also, carefully review refund policies, including cancellation fees, of the respective airlines and travel agencies.
- (Parcel Delivery) As demand for parcel delivery surges just before the holiday, incidents such as damaged or lost items and delayed shipments may occur. Consumers are advised to allow sufficient time for delivery and keep supporting documents such as shipping labels and purchase receipts.
- (Health Foods) Be cautious of marketing tactics such as free trials. If you do not intend to purchase or consume the product, request a contract cancellation within the legally specified period.
- Online shopping and TV home shopping: 7 days
- Door-to-door sales (including phone sales and temporary sales offices): 14 days
The Consumer Agency and the Fair Trade Commission are providing information on related damage cases and precautions, urging consumers to be vigilant to prevent similar issues.
- In case of damage, consumers can seek consultation or file for dispute resolution through Consumer24 or the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center (toll-free for the caller).
