– Administrative fines to be imposed on non-compliant businesses –
July 30, 2026
The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC, Chairperson Biung-Ghi Ju) will conduct an intensive inspection of compliance with the Notification on Mandatory Information Disclosure in Advertisements by businesses operating in the wedding services industry, beginning on August 1, 2026.
The KFTC amended the Notification on November 12, 2025, in response to growing consumer concerns that engaged couples were often unable to obtain essential pricing information in advance—such as venue rental fees, catering costs, decoration charges, and prices for bundled wedding preparation services including photography, dress rental, and beauty services—resulting in unexpected additional expenses during the wedding planning process.
Under the revised Notification, businesses engaged in wedding venue services or wedding planning services are required to disclose the details and prices of both basic services and optional items, as well as cancellation fees and refund policies. Such information must be displayed either on the business's official website or on the Korea Consumer Agency's Cham Price website, and also on the cover page of the contract.
In particular, wedding planning businesses that provide referral or matching services with affiliated vendors are required to disclose the mandatory information separately for each affiliated business.
This intensive inspection follows the expiration of the six-month guidance period after the revised Notification took effect on November 12, 2025. As compliance among covered businesses remains insufficient, the KFTC is carrying out the inspection to improve the overall compliance rate.
The KFTC will directly inspect whether wedding venues and wedding planning businesses have properly disclosed mandatory information—including pricing details and cancellation fees—on their websites, the Korea Consumer Agency's Cham Price website, and on the cover page of their contracts. Administrative fines will be imposed on businesses found to be in violation of the disclosure requirements.
The KFTC plans to gradually expand the scope of inspections through the end of the year and continue monitoring compliance to ensure that engaged couples have access to sufficient pricing information, enabling them to make informed and reasonable purchasing decisions when preparing for their weddings.
