Korea Fair Trade Commission Signs 'Autonomous Product Safety Agreement' With AliExpress and Temu

by walk around 2024. 5. 14.

On May 13, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (Chairman Han Ki-jung, hereinafter referred to as the Fair Trade Commission) signed the Autonomous Product Safety Agreement (hereinafter referred to as the Autonomous Agreement) with AliExpress (hereinafter referred to as Ali) and Temu platform operators, the first overseas online platform operator.

The voluntary agreement was made to secure consumer safety from harmful products distributed and sold in Korea through overseas direct purchase platforms as the number of users of Chinese overseas online platforms such as Ali and Temu increased significantly in Korea along with the expansion of overseas direct purchase.

In particular, the Korea Customs Service and the Seoul Metropolitan Government recently conducted safety inspections on children's products sold on the Ali and Temu platforms, and quickly signed an autonomous agreement with the Ali and Temu platform operators, considering that consumer safety is seriously threatened by the detection of a large amount of substances harmful to the human body in the products.

This autonomous agreement is the first agreement signed by an overseas online platform operator in Korea regarding product safety, and it is particularly meaningful in that Temu is the first in the world to sign an autonomous agreement with Korea.
