* The International Competition Network (ICN) is a consultative body established in 2001 to share each country's policy and law enforcement directions on the field of competition law. Currently, 132 countries (143 competition authorities) participate

ICN's annual meeting consists of a total of five working groups, including competition advocacy, competition authority effectiveness, business combination, single action, and cartel, and Kim attended the entire Competition Advocacy working group meeting to be held on May 16 (Thursday) and had various and in-depth discussions with participants on the theme of "conducting market research to understand competition in emerging markets."

In addition to the Korea Fair Trade Commission, high-level officials from various competition authorities such as Italy, India, and Egypt attended the meeting as presenters, and they introduced new market areas that each competition authority is paying attention to, experience in conducting market research in the market, and ways to utilize them, and shared their opinions.

Specifically, Kim introduced cases of market research on new markets recently conducted by the Korea Fair Trade Commission, including cloud services, the Internet of Things, and Internet video services (OTT), and explained how he is using the results from market research. In addition, by introducing examples of the FTC's market research and operation, focusing on the artificial intelligence (AI) field, which aims to publish a policy report this year, participants from each country exchanged various perspectives on effective market research methodologies to promote competition.

In addition, as a representative example of using market research for competitive advocacy activities, Kim introduced the FTC's experience of improving competition-restrictive regulations that limit market entry through market analysis on the Internet of Things (IoT), and further announced that this year, he will actively discover and improve regulations that prevent the growth of innovative companies through market research on climate technology (tech) in relation to the sustainability field, which is gradually increasing in importance in the international community.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission will continue to actively participate in international discussions on competition laws and policies and express opinions to reflect Korea's understanding and perspective.
