Government Agencies Seek to Minimize Consumer Damage from Tmon and WeMakePrice Voucher Incident(2024.8.29)

  • Collecting opinions from 7 major voucher issuers, 4 platform companies, 3 user locations regarding consumer relief measures related to the Tmon and WeMakePrice incident -

On August 29 at 10 a.m., the Korea Fair Trade Commission, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Financial Services Commission, and Financial Supervisory Service held a meeting with voucher issuers, platform companies, and user locations to discuss ways to minimize consumer damage caused by the Tmon and WeMakePrice incident and to gather related opinions.

 

The government, while reviewing the scale of vouchers sold on Tmon and WeMakePrice, the number of refund requests received, and the financial situation, urged the participants to actively cooperate in resolving the consumer damages caused by delayed settlements, including voucher refunds.

 

Regarding this, the government stated, "Considering the significant damage to voucher issuers, consumers, and the concerns of the public due to the Tmon and WeMakePrice incident, we hope that everyone will work together to find ways to minimize the damage."

 

In response to the government’s request, the attendees explained that efforts are being made to ensure that voucher usage is not interrupted, and that they are doing their utmost to support refunds and prevent further consumer damage.

 

Furthermore, the government explained, "To help alleviate the difficulties faced by the industry, it is possible to extend the maturity and defer repayment of existing loans of voucher sales companies," and added, "We ask for cooperation so that the collective dispute mediation process, which is currently being handled by the Korea Consumer Agency, can proceed smoothly."

 

The government is taking full measures to prevent further consumer damage from the Tmon and WeMakePrice incident and is actively preparing institutional improvements to prevent recurrence in the future.
