- The FTC sent a resolution to Google on the corrective order and the imposition of 42.1 billion won in fines, and started execution of corrective measures and conducted an implementation inspection

- Inspection plans such as revising the app developer distribution contract and establishing an internal monitoring system related to fair trade to avoid disadvantages due to the launch of competitive app markets

The Fair Trade Commission plans to send a resolution to Google at the end of July 2023 to impose a corrective order and penalty of 42.1 billion won on Google and start implementing corrective measures, while conducting an implementation check.

Google used its power as an absolute market dominant operator in the Android app market to hinder competition in the app market by preventing mobile game companies from launching freely competitive app market games from June 2016 to April 2018, and preventing latecomer OneStore from attracting new games.

The Fair Trade Commission imposed a corrective order to impose a fine on Google's anti-competitive behavior and to modify developer distribution contracts signed by domestic mobile game companies*, while establishing an internal monitoring system related to fair trade in the domestic app market business and reporting the results of its operation to the Fair Trade Commission.

The monopoly of the app market can adversely affect the overall mobile ecosystem, so the recovery of competition in this market is very important. This corrective action is significant in that it has put a brake on Google's monopoly power, a global operator, in the app market, and laid the foundation for fair competition in the app market.
